Testing Information
The ACT is a college entrance test usually taken by juniors and/or seniors. Scores are added to the student’s transcript and sent to colleges when the student applies to colleges. ACT scores can determine if a student will be accepted to a college and/or awarded a scholarship through a college. ACT composite score is used in the RAI calculation that the public state universities use as an acceptance criteria. Click her for RAI calculator
It’s recommended that you take the ACT during your junior year I usually recommend during the spring time. It is recommend taking the ACT twice – data shows students typically do at least a point or better on their cumulative score the second time they test 50 percent of the time. Colleges take the best score so doing worse doesn’t impact college admission decisions.

Should you take the ACT or SAT? Students can take either one; however, ACT is more often taken by students who live in Midwestern states and plan to attend a Midwestern college or university. SAT is taken more for the eastern or western coastal state colleges and universities. You should check to see which entrance test is preferred at the college/s you are considering to apply to. In addition, the ACT is administered at UHS and the SATs are not.
